The ejected material is Plasma primary of electrons and protons Most CMEs are ejected from the active and the cooler region on the surface of the sun. These particles are usually will take 24 to 36 hours to reach earth.
The smaller CME evens hitting earth shut down their satellites and global Communications systems. Also, it changes the trajectory of aircraft and interrupts electric power rates. But when a massive CME that directly heats earth it can be exponentially more dangerous which can damage and wipe out anything electric
On 1September,1859 Astronomer Richard noticed sudden explosions of the heat of light coming out of the cluster of the sunspot form a CME it is also known as the 'Carrington Event' that CME was so intense that the earth was bombarded with Emps. Later STEREO and SDO (Solar Dynamics Observatory) observatory has improved our knowledge of corona and gives us precise weather report of space.
